The P38 Lightning is a unique plane that played various roles in World War II. It has twin booms and a single central nacelle containing the cockpit. It was named the “fork tail devil” by the Luftwaffe and “two plane, one pilot” by the Japanese. The P38 served many different missions including dive bombing, level bombing, ground-attack, night fighting, photo reconnaissance, and long range escort fighter. It earned itself and awesome reputation in the war.
